Who is Maa Shailputri?
The name Shailputri comes from two Sanskrit words:

She is believed to be the daughter of the King of Mountains, Himavan. In her previous birth she was Sati, the consort of Shiva. After Sati sacrificed herself, she was reborn as Shailputri and later married Lord Shiva again.

नवरात्रि का पहला दिन – माँ शैलपुत्री
पहला दिन शक्ति की आराधना का प्रारंभ माना जाता है। इस दिन देवी के प्रथम स्वरूप शैलपुत्री की पूजा की जाती है। माँ शैलपुत्री को पर्वतराज हिमालय की पुत्री माना जाता है और वे शक्ति, धैर्य और पवित्रता का प्रतीक हैं।
नवरात्रि के नौ दिनों में माँ के नौ स्वरूपों की पूजा की जाती है और पहला दिन आध्यात्मिक यात्रा की शुरुआत का प्रतीक होता है।
माँ शैलपुत्री कौन हैं?
शैलपुत्री नाम दो शब्दों से मिलकर बना है:
- शैल – पर्वत
- पुत्री – बेटी
अर्थात् पर्वत की पुत्री।
पुराणों के अनुसार माँ शैलपुत्री पिछले जन्म में सती थीं, जो भगवान शिव की पत्नी थीं। जब सती ने अपने पिता के यज्ञ में अपमान सहकर आत्मदाह कर लिया, तब अगले जन्म में वे हिमवान के घर शैलपुत्री के रूप में जन्मीं और बाद में भगवान शिव से पुनः विवाह किया।
माँ शैलपुत्री का स्वरूप
माँ शैलपुत्री का स्वरूप अत्यंत शांत और दिव्य माना जाता है।
उनकी विशेषताएँ:
- वाहन – नंदी (बैल)
- दाहिने हाथ में – त्रिशूल
- बाएँ हाथ में – कमल का फूल
इनका प्रतीकात्मक अर्थ:
- नंदी (बैल) – शक्ति और धर्म
