1. Ghatasthapana / Kalash Sthapana (Sacred Pot Installation)
This marks the beginning of Navratri.
- Clean the puja space.
- Spread clean red/yellow cloth on the platform.
- Place a Kalash (earthen pot) filled with clean water.
- Tie a red sacred thread (mauli) around the neck of the Kalash.
- Put mango leaves around the mouth and place a coconut wrapped in red cloth over it.
- Decorate the Kalash with rice, turmeric, flowers, and coins.
- Sow barley seeds around the Kalash if possible.
2. Invoke Lord Ganesha

🌸 Story of Maa Shailputri
In her previous birth, Maa Shailputri was Sati, the daughter of King Daksha and the first wife of Lord Shiva.
King Daksha did not approve of Lord Shiva and once organized a grand Yajna (sacrificial ritual), deliberately not inviting Shiva and Sati. Despite being uninvited, Sati went to the Yajna, hoping her father would accept her and her husband. But when she reached there, Daksha insulted Shiva in front of everyone. Sati couldn’t bear the disrespect towards her husband and, in extreme grief and anger, sacrificed herself in the fire of the Yajna.
After Sati’s self-immolation, Shiva was devastated. He went into deep meditation and disconnected from the world. The entire creation fell into imbalance without Shiva’s energy.
Later, Sati took rebirth as Shailputri, the daughter of King Himavan (Himalaya) and Queen Menavati. That is why she is called Shailputri — “Daughter of the Mountain”.
In this birth, she again practiced severe penance and devotion and eventually reunited with Lord Shiva.

इस दिन चैत्र नवरात्रि की शुरुआत होगी और प्रथम दिन माँ शैलपुत्री की पूजा की जाती है।

🌸 माँ शैलपुत्री की कथा
बहुत प्राचीन समय की बात है।
माँ दुर्गा ने अपने प्रथम रूप में सती के रूप में जन्म लिया था। वे प्रजापति दक्ष की पुत्री थीं और भगवान शिव को अपने पति के रूप में चुना था।
लेकिन उनके पिता दक्ष, भगवान शिव से नाराज़ रहते थे। एक बार दक्ष ने एक भव्य यज्ञ का आयोजन किया और सभी देवताओं को आमंत्रित किया, लेकिन अपने दामाद शिव और पुत्री सती को आमंत्रित नहीं किया।
सती बिना बुलावे के यज्ञ में पहुँचीं, लेकिन वहाँ जाकर उन्होंने देखा कि उनके पिता शिवजी का अपमान कर रहे हैं। यह देखकर वे अत्यंत क्रोधित और दुखी हो गईं और वहीं आत्मदाह (सतीदाह) कर लिया।
यह समाचार सुनकर भगवान शिव अत्यंत दुखी हो गए और वे समाधि में चले गए।
ब्रह्मांड में असंतुलन उत्पन्न हो गया।
इसके बाद सती ने हिमालय पर्वत के घर में पार्वती के रूप में पुनर्जन्म लिया।
हिमालय और मैना की पुत्री होने के कारण उनका नाम पड़ा — शैलपुत्री (शैल = पर्वत, पुत्री = बेटी)।
इसी रूप में उन्होंने घोर तपस्या की और पुनः भगवान शिव को पति रूप में प्राप्त किया।
