The Lion and the Clever Rabbit
Once upon a time, a fierce lion lived in a forest. Every day, he hunted many animals. The animals were terrified and decided to find a solution. They went to the lion and said, “Dear King, instead of hunting us, we will send one animal to you every day for your meal.”
The lion agreed.
One day, it was a clever rabbit’s turn. The rabbit deliberately walked very slowly and reached the lion late. The hungry lion roared angrily, “Why are you so late?”
The rabbit bowed and said, “Your Majesty, another lion stopped me on the way. He claimed that he was the real king of this forest and tried to eat me.”
The lion became furious. “Take me to that lion immediately!” he shouted.
The rabbit led the lion to a deep well. Looking into the well, the lion saw his own reflection in the water. Thinking it was the rival lion, he roared loudly. The reflection roared back.
Blinded by anger, the lion jumped into the well to attack his enemy. He fell into the water and drowned.
The rabbit returned safely to the forest. All the animals celebrated because they were finally free from the cruel lion.
Moral: Wisdom and intelligence are more powerful than strength.
शेर और चतुर खरगोश
बहुत समय पहले एक घने जंगल में एक बहुत ही शक्तिशाली और क्रूर शेर रहता था। वह प्रतिदिन कई जानवरों का शिकार करता था। जंगल के सभी जानवर उसके डर से हमेशा सहमे रहते थे।
एक दिन सभी जानवरों ने मिलकर एक योजना बनाई। वे शेर के पास गए और बोले, “महाराज, यदि आप रोज़ शिकार करने नहीं निकलेंगे, तो हम प्रतिदिन आपकी भोजन के लिए एक जानवर स्वयं भेज दिया करेंगे।”
शेर ने उनकी बात मान ली।
कुछ दिनों बाद एक छोटे से चतुर खरगोश की बारी आई। खरगोश जानबूझकर धीरे-धीरे चलता हुआ बहुत देर से शेर के पास पहुँचा।
भूख से परेशान शेर गुस्से में गरजा, “इतनी देर क्यों हुई?”
खरगोश ने विनम्रता से कहा, “महाराज, रास्ते में एक दूसरा शेर मिल गया। उसने कहा कि वही इस जंगल का असली राजा है। उसने मुझे रोक लिया और आपको चुनौती दी है।”
यह सुनकर शेर क्रोध से आग-बबूला हो गया। उसने कहा, “मुझे तुरंत उस शेर के पास ले चलो!”
खरगोश शेर को एक गहरे कुएँ के पास ले गया। उसने कहा, “महाराज, वही शेर इस कुएँ में छिपा हुआ है।”
शेर ने कुएँ में झाँका। उसे पानी में अपनी ही परछाईं दिखाई दी। उसे लगा कि सचमुच दूसरा शेर वहाँ मौजूद है। उसने ज़ोर से दहाड़ लगाई। कुएँ से उसकी अपनी ही आवाज़ गूँजकर वापस आई।
गुस्से में अंधा होकर शेर अपने “दुश्मन” पर हमला करने के लिए कुएँ में कूद पड़ा। वह पानी में गिर गया और डूबकर मर गया।
खरगोश सुरक्षित जंगल लौट आया। सभी जानवर बहुत खुश हुए और उसकी बुद्धिमानी की प्रशंसा करने लगे। उस दिन के बाद जंगल के सभी जानवर शांति और खुशी से रहने लगे।
शिक्षा (Moral):
बुद्धि और सूझ-बूझ, बल से भी अधिक शक्तिशाली होती है।
