Eighth Navratri Maa Mahagauri is dedicated to Maa Mahagauri, the symbol of purity, peace, and serenity. This day is also popularly celebrated as Durga Ashtami, one of the most important days of Navratri.
Who is Maa Mahagauri?
Maa Mahagauri is known for her radiant white complexion and calm nature. According to Hindu beliefs, Goddess Parvati performed intense penance to please Lord Shiva, after which her complexion became pure and radiant—earning her the name “Mahagauri.”
She rides a bull and holds a trident and damru, symbolizing power and divine grace.
Navratri Day 8 Puja Vidhi
Follow these steps to worship Maa Mahagauri:
- Wake up early and take a holy bath
- Wear pink or purple clothes (auspicious color of the day)
- Clean the पूजा स्थान and install Maa Mahagauri’s idol or image
- Offer coconut and sweets
- Perform Kanya Pujan (Kanjak) – worship young girls as forms of the goddess
- Light diya and incense sticks
- Chant the mantra:
“ॐ देवी महागौर्यै नमः” - Perform aarti and meditate

माँ महागौरी कौन हैं?

वे बैल पर सवार होती हैं और त्रिशूल तथा डमरू धारण करती हैं।

- सुबह स्नान कर स्वच्छ वस्त्र धारण करें
- गुलाबी या बैंगनी रंग के कपड़े पहनें
- पूजा स्थान को साफ करें और माँ की प्रतिमा स्थापित करें
- नारियल और मिठाई का भोग लगाएं
- कन्या पूजन करें (बहुत महत्वपूर्ण)
- दीपक और अगरबत्ती जलाएं
- मंत्र जाप करें:
“ॐ देवी महागौर्यै नमः” - आरती करें और ध्यान करें
